Hayley Zena is an artist and curator living and working on Dharug and Gundungurra country, Blue Mountains.

Currently curating at The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre City Art Gallery. Before that, AGNSW in Visitor Experience.

About

Hayley Zena performs multiple roles: artist, curator, researcher and editor. She is strongly influenced by the natural world and the human expression of story-telling, primarily folklore and revisionist histories.

Artist Practice

Examining the notion of the human body as a conduit of the subconscious and ritual creation. She examines the complexities of the human condition through the lens of the gothic, Celtic folklore, and nature’s sublimity in order to make sense of the world around her.

Curatorial Practice

Hayley Zena focuses on collaborative exhibition making and implementing artist-focused engagement. Her curatorial intention is to generate meaningful experiences between the artist, artwork and audience, while upholding an innovative and high standard of exhibition making.

History

She has studied a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) at Sydney College of the Arts, as well as a Masters of Curating at UNSW Art and Design. She was previously on the board of directors at STACKS Projects, Potts Point and AIRspace Projects, Marrickville. She dedicates her time to curating, art-making and gardening.
